Brewing Guide

Coffee Grinders in Malaysia: Timemore and Millab Buying Guide (2026)

The short answer

Choose a grinder by how you brew and how much you grind at once. For one or two cups of pour-over, a hand grinder such as the Timemore C5 at RM230 is enough. For espresso by hand, pick an espresso-optimised model such as the C5 ESP. If you grind daily for several people, an electric grinder from RM815 saves the effort.

A grinder changes the cup more than most people expect, because coffee starts losing aroma as soon as it is ground. Grinding just before brewing is the single biggest upgrade after buying fresh beans. This guide covers the grinders on Bloom Daily and who each one suits. Specifications are the ones listed for each product; prices are as of October 2026, and each product page shows the current price.

First decide three things

Hand grinders: RM230 to RM270

All four Timemore C5 models use the same S2C 42mm seven-blade steel burr and hold up to 25g. The differences are what they are tuned for and how you adjust them.

Who they suit: one or two cups at a time. Pick the C5 if you brew filter coffee, the ESP if espresso is your main drink, and a Pro version if you change grind size often and want the adjustment on the outside.

Portable electric: RM415

The Timemore Whirly 01S is a battery-powered grinder with a 42mm eight-blade steel burr, a 1000mAh battery and 45g capacity, listed for both espresso and pour-over.

Who it suits: people who want hand-grinder size without the cranking, for travel or a desk at work.

Home electric grinders: RM815 to RM1,359

Who they suit: households that grind every day and want it done at the press of a button, without moving up to a large flat-burr machine.

Large flat-burr grinders: RM1,799 to RM2,899

The Timemore Sculptor range uses large steel burrs with variable speed.

Who they suit: enthusiasts and small cafes. The 078 and the 078S cost the same, so choose by brewing method: the 078 if you only brew pour-over, the 078S if you also pull espresso.

A short way to decide

What to pair it with

A grinder is half of a pour-over setup. The other half is a kettle you can pour slowly from, a dripper and a scale. See the full coffee equipment range, and our V60 4:6 method guide for a recipe to start with. For beans, see the best espresso beans in Malaysia or browse all roasted coffee beans.

Frequently asked questions

Which coffee grinder should a beginner buy in Malaysia?

A hand grinder with steel burrs is the usual starting point because it costs far less than an electric one of similar grind quality. On Bloom Daily the Timemore C5 is RM230 and holds up to 25g, which is enough for one or two cups of pour-over.

How much does a coffee grinder cost in Malaysia?

On Bloom Daily as of October 2026, Timemore hand grinders are RM230 to RM270, the Whirly 01S portable electric grinder is RM415, the BRICKS 01S is RM815, the Millab M01 is RM1,259 to RM1,359, and the Timemore Sculptor electric grinders are RM1,799 to RM2,899.

What is the difference between the Timemore C5 and the C5 ESP?

Both use the same 42mm seven-blade steel burr and hold up to 25g. The C5 is listed for pour-over and is espresso compatible, while the C5 ESP is listed as espresso optimised. The Pro versions of each add external grind adjustment.

Do I need a different grinder for espresso and pour-over?

Not necessarily. Espresso needs a much finer grind and smaller adjustment steps than pour-over, so check what a grinder is listed for. Models described as multi-purpose or espresso compatible cover both; a grinder optimised for pour-over is the wrong choice if espresso is your main drink.

Is a hand grinder or an electric grinder better?

A hand grinder is cheaper, quiet and portable, and suits one or two cups at a time. An electric grinder is faster and easier when you grind several doses a day or brew for a group. Grind quality depends on the burrs, not on whether a motor turns them.
