Nordic-style light roasts, made for pour-over
Richman Coffee Roastery is a specialty roaster and cafe in Pusat Bandar Rawang, Selangor, and filter coffee is what it is known for. It roasts on a drum roaster and takes its filter coffees to a Nordic-style light roast, so the coffee tastes of where it was grown, not of the roast. In its own words: “We don’t roast to add flavor; we roast to reveal it.”

Jpresso, Bloom Daily’s house roaster in Kuala Lumpur, has three washed coffees on a filter roast:
- Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Aricha Webanchi — rose, juicy, creamy, water apple, peach. Brewed on V60 at 91°C, 1:16. RM71 / RM124.
- Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Amederaro — mango, orange, white floral. Pour-over at 90°C. RM71 / RM124.
- Colombia La Leona Microlot — washed Caturra from Quindío, 1,400–1,450 m. Caramel, apricot, cacao nibs, mandarin. Pour-over at 92°C. RM76 / RM113.
Filter Roast or Espresso Roast?
A filter roast stops earlier, so the coffee keeps its acidity, florals and fruit. It suits V60, Kalita, Chemex and other pour-over, where water passes slowly through the grounds. An espresso roast goes further for body, sweetness and chocolate, which holds up under pressure and in milk. If you drink your coffee black and like it bright, start with filter.
